Canaan United Methodist Church Men's Ministry sponsored its first Father-son and daughter fishing tournament at High Rock Lake on Sunday, May 4, 2003. { 2004 event May 23rd } The day's activities started off with the men cooking breakfast for their children and grandchildren during the monthly breakfast meeting. Newcomers to the area were also invited to participate in the fellowship, worship service and fishing tournament.
Over twenty anglers arrived with their minnows, worms, and fishing gear at Pepple Beach to pursue their place in history as prizes were available in three categories. After a brief organizational gathering to review the tournament rules and safety issues, the boat captains left the docks of Max and Darcus Bisher promptly at 2 pm. Joe Foley was the official weigh master when the fleet of boats returned at 5 pm. The largest fish (1.6 lbs.) was caught by young angler Baret Bledsoe; the smallest one was pulled from the water by Caleb Ward; and the largest amount of fish (over 6 lbs.) was caught by our church minister Dan Money and parishioners Caleb Ward and David Lanier ll. Addie Grubb caught several large fish that were floating on the water surface. Unfortunately, they did not qualify at the weigh-in. Church photographer was very busy capturing the anglers, their catch, and the weigh-in-activities. Many church members who did not fish in the tournament arrived at five pm to check out the fish that were caught and listen to the story of the "big one that got away".
